[Feature]: Show# of email with tags on left sidebar

Problem / Motivation

Hi Bulwark team.

On Bulwark webmail, number of emails show up only for folders. But number of emails do not show up with tag names on Left sidebar.

Usecase: I wish to use tags exclusively to categorised email rather than folder. I also need to copy emails from google, which I think follows tags similar to bulwark email.

On gmail, since tags are used exclusively to categorised email, I can see number of emails under each tags without opening.

Proposed Solution

Can you please add "number of unread" emails inside a tag on the side bar tag list ? For example in attached image, there is one unread email under tag "proxmox" , so it would be good to have the tag written as

Proxmox 1 / 3

Result: This would make tags look same as folders .

Hi @getpankajyadav - this feature already exists: tag counts (unread / total, the same badge folders use) have shipped since v1.3.0, and I can confirm they render in my own instance on the current release. So the display code is there. Something is making your counts come back empty. A few things to check, most likely first:

1. Do the tags still appear on individual emails, just with no sidebar number? If so, your tagged mail may be stored under the older $color: keyword prefix from before the label migration. The sidebar count query only looks for $label:, whereas the per-email display honours both $label: and $color: - so old-tagged mail shows the chip but doesn't get counted. That's the most likely cause of "chips yes, count no".
2. Version - which webmail version are you on? Counts need v1.3.0+ (current is v1.7.8).
3. Setting - Settings → Layout → "Show Total Message Count". With it off, only the unread number shows, and that's hidden when a tag has zero unread.

If none of those fit and folder counts still work while tag counts stay at 0 even for freshly-tagged mail, it points to the server not returning calculateTotal on keyword-filtered Email/query, which is a Stalwart-side check.

@getpankajyadav I think you are hitting a bug I also noticed: if there are too many tags, the message count doesn't get displayed because Stalwart is rejecting it. I'm creating a PR as I write this to fix it.

You might also be interested in my PR that was merged today that allows nesting of and hiding (always or when no unread emails) of tags as you seem to use gmail the way I used to.
