Description
Make Career and College Quizzes more interactable for first time users
Comments/suggestions from Dereck: The career and college quizzes are only interesting or impactful to users who are already familiar with biotechnology and/or our website in general.
Checkpoint 1 - May 22
Goal:
The first thing we need to prioritize is making our website more interactable for a first-time user. For the career and college quizzes, it is more directed towards an audience that is already familiar with biotechnology and not very user friendly. To combat this, I plan to add a pop-up that gives the user an overview of some of the basics of biotechnology so that they will be more prepared to traverse our website.
- Add a pop-up with information about basics of biotechnology
- Embed educational videos that a first-time user may find helpful
- Perhaps add a glossary section for biotechnology vocabulary
- Style it to make it blend in with the rest of the website
- Add a suggestions section that introduces the user to other educational websites
- Add buttons that take user to other websites

Checkpoint 2 - May 29
Goal:
Because these features aren't exactly games and rather quizzes, it is not super interactive and fun to the user. To resolve this issue, I plan to implement a matching game that could match careers to their description. One of Derek's main suggestions about our website is to make it cater towards first-time users new to biotechnology by introducing them to biotechnology concepts before letting them explore our features. With a matching game, the user would be able to get some context about biotechnology before taking a quiz.
-
Let the matching game be the first thing the user sees when they click on the webpage
-
Find or create a database with all the necessary terms for biotechnology so the terms and definitions are randomized each time
-
Track the time it takes for the user to finish the game and present it on a "Game Over" screen
-
Allow users to replay the game to beat their previous time
-
When the user finishes the game, add a screen that allows the reader then to take the career and/or college quiz
