Adding network printer, connection string is garbage

I'm adding network printers via cups web interface / Administration / Add Printer / Discovered Network Printers.

The pre-filled connection string is garbage:

It's always different garbage characters.

Cups version: 2.4.10

I see this with cups 2.4.10 on Slackware Linux. It seems to have started happening after I upgraded today; previously I was running the cups that comes with the Slackware 15.0 installer, which I think is cups-2.3.3.
