Initial work for version 1 has started and with good progress. Here is a checklist:

• Refactor and Granulize traits tracked via #586
• Reimplement new traits
• Robust and standardized tests for new traits
• Split and move backend crates to own repos

Will the shared connection in #532 make it to 1.0?

The performance impact seems to be very big and I think it being part of the API since 1.0 is important.
