Convert Hyper-V Instance to Template

Hi all,

My setup uses KVM with Ceph storage. The only approach I’ve found so far is to convert Hyper-V VHDX files to QCOW2 and then upload them to CloudStack as templates. Some of my instances are very large, ranging from 100 GB up to over 1 TB. I’ve tried uploading a converted 100 GB QCOW2, but it always times out (around an hour). Is there any parameter or global configuration I can adjust to increase or bypass this timeout?

@patrick-jpg-668 Try to increase the value in the global setting upload.operation.timeout and see if that helps you

Hi,

I saw this setting but i believe this setting is simply to remove failed template (default 60 minutes). It is not the timeout value for uploading template.

@patrick-jpg-668 I think you are saying that based on #7301 . The global setting is described as timeout for volume upload. But I remember this comes into play when uploading the template or ISO as well.

I would start with increasing the value of this global setting to see if it makes any difference ( it doesn't have any side effect). If there is still an issue look at the management server log (/var/log/cloudstack/management/management-server.log) and /var/log/cloud.log from the SSVM to figure out what is causing the timeout. You can upload these logs here and I can take a look if needed
