Collaboration Proposal: Hardware-Bound (ASIC) Image Verification to Complement C2PA #1

Hi @aloth,

Love Origin Lens! C2PA verification on-device is exactly what journalism needs. I'd like to propose a collaboration that adds hardware-bound trust.

SiliconSignature — ASIC-Based Proof-of-Work for Images

Our project uses physical ASIC miners (Antminer S9 BM1387) to generate proof-of-work nonces embedded as image watermarks.

How We Complement Origin Lens

Layer Origin Lens + SiliconSignature
Software provenance ✅ C2PA manifests ✅ + ASIC PoW nonce
Hardware trust ❌ None ✅ Physical chip
Forge cost $0 (extract key) $10,000+ (buy ASIC)
Offline verify Partial 100% math only

Specific Integration Ideas

  1. Dual verification: C2PA manifest + SiliconSignature watermark = two independent trust anchors
  2. Fallback when C2PA missing: Many images lack C2PA — SiliconSignature provides alternative provenance
  3. iOS extension: Add SiliconSignature verify to Origin Lens app

Technical Details

  • Watermarking: Reed-Solomon GF(2^8) LSB with 5× redundancy
  • Survival: 40% pixel destruction verified recoverable
  • ASIC: SHA-256 proof-of-work, Antminer S9 BM1387 chip
  • Verify: Zero dependencies, offline verification

Implementation

Question

Would you be interested in a combined verification mode where Origin Lens checks both C2PA AND SiliconSignature watermark? This would be the first app to verify both software and hardware provenance.
