How can I have a count in when live recording?

For now, everything I do is step recording. I want to hit a button, hear a count in and then start playing the keyboard to enter a melody.

But for everything I try, I'm not hearing a metronome, nor a count in.

I'm actually working in that area now, refactoring "background recording" to be easier, so I will retest the metronome functionality and upgrade the write-up in the user manual.
