[BUG] .env.example lists backend API port as 3001, whereas default .env file is 3000

Describe the Bug

.env.example lists backend API port as 3001, whereas the default .env file is set to 3000. I assume this is incorrect and it should be 3000?

DX Spider telnet proxy is documented as running on port 3001 but I cannot see anything running on that port.

Thanks for reporting this @graham999au — this is actually working as intended, but I can see how it's confusing.

Port 3001 is correct for the backend. In development, Vite runs the frontend on :3000 and proxies /api requests to the
backend on :3001. The || 3000 fallback you may have seen in the code is only used in production mode where there's no
Vite dev server.

The DX Spider proxy is a separate microservice (in the dxspider-proxy/ directory) that runs independently — typically
on its own deployment (e.g., Railway). It also defaults to port 3001, but it's not meant to run on the same host as
the main backend. Most users don't need to run it at all since a shared proxy is provided out of the box via
DXSPIDER_PROXY_URL.

That said, I can see how two things defaulting to 3001 reads as a conflict. I'll add a note to clarify this in the
docs.
