Task: Welcoming people to the marketing channel

For the recurring tasks list, there is a task for team reps to welcome to new joiners to the channel.

Three items copied below to note from the existing documentation on GitHub. Once we have all the links to documents, extra information, we can combine it into documentation for the handbook.

Task: Team reps to welcome in Slack and in the weekly meetings.

• add in the thread when someone joins. Last update: to do this weekly in the team meeting, and to add emoji when they arrive. Team in general can and do also welcome people.

Note:

• joiners may not be completely new to the channel, eg returners to the team, people who exit the channel after specific items they are involved with and return later (found this is quite common approach), or contributors from other teams coming to assist/ support on specific items
• team discussion outcome: useful to check against the list of contributors before welcoming people as new contributors to the project/ marketing. More positive may be to 'welcome them to the Marketing channel'
• team migrated to an adapted list for noting new contributors names and to help make sure they were being welcomed, encouraged and set up on the tools as they needed. This list was adapted from the one used successfully in documentation and training. Maedah to transfer the list of new arrivals she is keeping to this. Yvette to add to it from her lists.
• for awareness for the future, on a few occasions, have had some new joiners express disappointment if they have not been formally welcomed within a day of joining
• and some have shared sales materials in the channel. [Yvette to add the wording agreed to use if this happens which she checked with Josepha]
