Photo resolution and preferred Filter mode

Hello,
Is there a way to improve the picture resolution? I mean if taking the same picture with expo-camera, the resolution is much better, and when it comes to documents not in a perfect condition this could be key.

Also is there a way to default to e.g. Filter mode b&w or photo?
