cannot specify tei version for uploaded ODD

If I choose one of the TEI presets as the base for my customisation, a handy drop down menu allows me to configure which TEI release is to be used. This drop down menu does not however appear if I upload my own ODD. I thought at first this was because my own customisation can specify which version to use by means of the schemaSpec/@source attribute ... but that isn't supported by Roma (says Mr Popup). So how do I say "process my own ODD using some version other than the default"?
