Url backed state

Would be nice when if you mess with the controls in the sidebar that the URL updates so if you reload you're in it back in that same state.

Any plans to do this or would a PR be welcome?

Retaining state across refreshes is definitely functionality we want! Today, sunpeak uses browser localStorage to persist that state across refreshes. Are some fields omitted from that localStorage that should be included, or is there another reason that functionality isn't working on your end?

In either case, feel free to open a PR improving localStorage! I'm open to a URL param-based approach if there's something I'm missing about the localStorage-based solution too, just let me know what that is.

Thanks, that makes sense. I dug in a bit more and this is narrower than I first described.

For a normal interactive inspector URL, localStorage does persist Width correctly. If I open the inspector, switch Width from 100% (Full) to Mobile S (375px), and refresh, it restores screenWidth: "mobile-s" from sunpeak-inspector-prefs.

The case where I’m seeing it reset is an auto-run/deep-link URL, e.g. a URL with autoRun=true. In that mode useInspectorState intentionally ignores stored prefs and also skips writing prefs, so any manual Width change is ephemeral. On Cmd-R it goes back to 100% (Full).

That makes sense for deterministic test startup, but it explains why localStorage didn’t solve the workflow I was hitting: I was using auto-run/repro links and then adjusting Width interactively.

So the sharper ask is probably one of:

1. document that autoRun=true disables localStorage-backed inspector prefs, or
2. support URL-backed state for controls like screenWidth, so auto-run repro URLs can still be adjusted/refreshed/share the exact preview state.

Happy to open a focused PR in whichever direction you think fits Sunpeak better.
