This Contributor License Agreement ("Agreement") applies to any
contribution ("Contribution") you submit to a repository maintained by
Adam Engelbrecht ("Maintainer") in the RFingAdam engineering-MCP
toolkit (this repository and its sibling repos, collectively the
"Project"). By submitting a Contribution. A pull request, patch,
issue-linked code snippet, or any other material intended for inclusion
in the Project. You accept and agree to the following terms. If you
are submitting on behalf of an employer or other entity, you represent
that you have the authority to bind that entity to this Agreement.
You grant the Maintainer, and recipients of software distributed by the Maintainer, a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable copyright license to reproduce, prepare derivative works of, publicly display, publicly perform, sublicense, and distribute your Contribution and derivative works of it.
This license explicitly includes the right for the Maintainer to relicense your Contribution: alone or as part of the Project: under license terms different from the Project's current outbound license, including a proprietary or commercial license, at the Maintainer's sole discretion. This is the specific right that lets the Maintainer offer paid commercial licenses to third parties who don't want the Project's default copyleft obligations, while keeping the Project itself free and open under its stated license for everyone else.
You grant the Maintainer and recipients of software distributed by the Maintainer a perpetual, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable (except as stated in this section) patent license to make, have made, use, offer to sell, sell, import, and otherwise transfer your Contribution, for patent claims you own or control that are necessarily infringed by your Contribution alone or in combination with the Project. If any entity institutes patent litigation against you or the Maintainer alleging that your Contribution or the Project constitutes patent infringement, any patent licenses granted to that entity under this Agreement for that Contribution terminate as of the date the litigation is filed.
You represent that:
- Each Contribution is your original creation, or you otherwise have sufficient rights to submit it under this Agreement (e.g. it is properly licensed and you have the rights to grant the license above).
- Your Contribution does not, to your knowledge, violate any third party's copyright, patent, trademark, trade secret, or other proprietary rights.
- If your employer has rights to intellectual property you create, you represent that you have received permission to make the Contribution on behalf of that employer, or your employer has waived such rights for your Contributions to the Project.
The Maintainer is under no obligation to use or incorporate your Contribution. Contributions are provided "AS IS", without warranty of any kind, express or implied.
This Agreement does not transfer ownership of your Contribution. You retain your copyright and may use, license, or relicense your own Contribution elsewhere, subject to any obligations you separately owe to the Project's own license terms once merged.
By opening a pull request against a Project repository, you affirm you have read and agree to this Agreement for that Contribution. No separate signature step is required at this project's current scale; the Maintainer may introduce a signature-tracking step (e.g. a CLA-assistant bot) later without changing these terms retroactively for Contributions already accepted.
