Distortion of videos in portrait mode (regression)

App version: 2.4.0
Server version: 15.6.0 on Ubuntu 24.04
Samsung S24+.

On the app, during playback (snapshot is fine), MP4 videos taken in portrait mode get stretched horizontally to fit the screen (both in portrait and landscape mode) resulting in heavy distortion of video output.
This is a recent regression because i dont remember this being an issue a few months back.
Videos play fine on Google Chrome browser (on the same.phone).

Hi, I'm currently investigating an issue with the video player and bumped the version in the 2.4.0 release.
If that's possible can you send a sample of a video that's being stretched to help reproducing the issue ?

Just installed version 2.3.1 (video plays correctly) and I can confirm this is a regression on 2.4.0.

Hi, I couldn't reproduce you issue using the video file you provided.

I tried on Android 9, 12, 14 and 16 using the Android Studio emulator.
We are already facing issues with flutter native video player and I'm currently working on replacing using libvlc you can track the progress here #228

Not sure if this makes any difference but I am on Android 15. Version 2.3.1 of the Piwigo NG app works perfectly with portrait mode videos on the same phone.

Hi. I am facing a similar issue. My server and phone spec below:

App version: 2.4.0 on Pixel 9 Android 16 Beta
Server version: 15.6.0 on Ubuntu 24.04

To add as a context, the same video is playing with the correct aspect ratio when connected to the same Piwigo server on iOS version of Piwigo Version 4.0 (642), iPhone 11 iOS 26.

UPDATE: I can confirm also that the version 2.3.1 plays the video correctly.

Hi, i will take note of that, as said earlier we are trying to move to VLC due to the sheer volume of issue with the default flutter video player but doing so require a lot of work.
It was planned for the 2.4.1 but we had to make a release without it so player migration will probably be in a latter release.

You can try the 2.4.1 version of the app and tell me if this fixes something.

Confirmed this is no longer an issue with Piwigo android app version 2.4.1.
App version: 2.4.1
Piwigo Server version: 15.7.0 on Ubuntu 24.04
Samsung S24+.
