Hi everyone,
While the new visual timeline in the 2026.7 Activity panel looks clean, it introduces a major regression for users in terms of information density and debugging.
The issue:
Before this update, the logbook explicitly displayed the full causal chain text, such as:
“Changed to [State] by [State of X] via [Automation Y]”.
Now, in the "More Info" popup of an entity, all this data is gone, replaced by a generic gray robot icon !
Clicking the line or the timestamp doesn't expands the detailed context; it only toggles between relative and absolute time.
Hovering over the robot icon to see the automation name is not precise enough.
Clicking "Show more" to leave the popup just to find out what triggered a basic device change adds unnecessary friction to daily debugging.
Why this matters:
Clean UI should not come at the cost of basic troubleshooting. Knowing that an automation triggered a device is useless if we can no longer see which entity state change actually forced the automation to run in the first place without playing detective across multiple tabs.
Please consider bringing back the explicit context text in the popup, or at least adding an "Advanced / Verbose mode" toggle for users who rely on HA for complex automation tracing.
Thanks!
