Community Prosthetic Fitting Initiative — Design Refinement Coordination

Hi to the OpenBionics community! We're organizing a community prosthetic fitting initiative in the greater Boston/Cambridge/Somerville, MA area and want to coordinate design refinement discussions with engineers and contributors.

Our Mission

We're working to improve access to affordable, open-source prosthetic devices through community-driven design refinement, 3D printing, and hands-on fitting events. We'd love your input to make these devices more functional, comfortable, and accessible.

What We'd Like to Discuss

  • Design feedback from real-world fitting and use scenarios
  • Material improvements for durability and comfort
  • EMG/sensor integration for more intuitive control
  • Community testing protocols for iterative development
  • Event planning for hands-on fitting workshops

Meeting Context

  • Region: Boston, Cambridge, and Somerville, MA
  • Volunteer Base: Engineers, designers, therapists, and end-users
  • Focus: Lower-cost myoelectric and mechanically active prosthetic hands/arms
  • Next Steps: Central meeting venue to be confirmed (Harvard Square / Cambridge area)
