This project came about in no small part due to the tj-actions/changed-files security incident. While I'd preferr to use Git-native features, it was always more convenient to use off-the-shelf GitHub Action.

Until it wasn't.

So here's to learning the ins-and-outs of git diff-tree with shell scripting, in the context of GitHub Actions.
