How to upgrade onnx in onnc?

I'm using onnc-umbrella build way to install onnc. In order to deploy yolov5 model I have to upgrade the onnx 1.3.0 which is currently included in onnc. But every newer version I tried (1.4.0, 1.7.0, 1.8.0, 1.9.0) reported different error. Any version-specificed options to set? Or there are far more things to change in order to use newer onnx?

FWIW, I did the changes that I needed to run the compiler with ONNX 1.13.1 here: https://github.com/tomeuv/onnc/tree/with-onnx-1.13.1
