In my opinion, development updates should at least be highlighted on the front page. They are very well written and provide far better insight into what is being developed and how things are progressing than trying to piece this together from GitHub pull requests and commits.
Benefits of highlighting specific forum posts (especially development updates) on the front page:
- More people will read them
- Readers are informed that the project is actively progressing
- It shows that multiple components are being developed in parallel by different developers
- Because they are well written, they highlight the professionalism and effort behind the project
