Problem Statement

It would be great to add optional SIMKL integration to Cinephage for users who want to track, sync, and manage their media activity outside of their local media ecosystem.

SIMKL is a popular media tracking platform that supports Movies, TV Shows, Anime, and more. Integration would allow Cinephage users to automatically synchronize their watch activity and maintain a centralized history across multiple applications and devices.

• Automatic Watch History Sync: Sync watched movies and episodes from Cinephage to SIMKL automatically.
• Scrobbling & Playback Tracking: Update progress during playback, resume positions, completed episodes, and watched status.
• Cross-Platform Synchronization: Keep watch history synchronized between Cinephage, Jellyfin, Kodi, Plex, Emby, Android TV apps, browser extensions, and other supported applications.
• Watchlist Synchronization: Import and sync watchlists between Cinephage and SIMKL for easier media planning and discovery.
• Ratings Synchronization: Automatically send ratings from Cinephage to SIMKL and optionally import existing ratings.
• Backup & Recovery: SIMKL can act as an external cloud backup for watch history, ratings, completed items, and watchlists.
• Connected IDs & Metadata Mapping: SIMKL maintains extensive cross-platform IDs including TMDb, IMDb, TVDB, AniDB, MAL, Trakt-compatible mappings, and more, helping improve media matching and interoperability.

Hi @Azmarine13 hanks for the detailed and well-written request; it is genuinely appreciated.

SIMKL integration is something we could realistically add. Before we do, I want to be upfront about what a first version would and wouldn't cover.

What's achievable:

• OAuth setup and a dedicated settings page
• Importing your SIMKL watchlist into Cinephage's monitoring queue (importing into your library)
• Optionally marking items as watched on SIMKL when Cinephage imports a file

What isn't currently possible, and why:

• Real scrobbling and playback progress tracking: Cinephage is a library management and automation tool, not a playback engine. It doesn't have a native "watched" state; that data lives in Jellyfin, Emby, or Plex. What this means in practice: SIMKL would get notified at import time (when a file lands in your library), not when you actually sit down and watch it. For a tracking-focused integration, that's a meaningful accuracy gap and worth being honest about upfront.

• A full bidirectional sync: Relaying played status from your media server through Cinephage to SIMKL is technically possible but is a larger undertaking better suited to a later phase once the foundation is in.

I'll keep this open as a tracked feature request. The watchlist import + OAuth piece is the most self-contained chunk and the most likely candidate for a first pass. There is no timeline commitment right now, but this is firmly a matter of priority rather than feasibility.
