The problem:

Nolvus crashes on startup after running it from MO2. This very same modlist I have now worked before, but even the base nolvus modlist is broken after the Windows update.

To Reproduce:

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Run Nolvus
  2. Crash

Environment:

MO2 up to date. Windows 11, I think the recent update may be the culprit.

Details:

I looked in the crash logs and it stated "Unhandled native exception occurred at 0x7FFCB2CE831A (KERNELBASE.dll+C831A) on thread 15784!"
I have never had this issue before the recent Windows update and researching it online doesn't seem to help.

Just to be explicitly clear, this is for the Nolvus modlist for Skyrim SE.

If more information is required I will be happy to provide.

I looked into this on the Nolvus site. It was a fix by disabling the Skyrim Upscaler mods in the SKSE plugins spot on MO2. If you look on Nolvus the quick walkthrough is in the trouble shooting spot. Unfortunately it would not allow me to load any previous saves after disabling the two mods. So I can only play on a new character. I believe the latest windows 11 update has caused this. Maybe a bad Kernelbase, dll file?

BTW what you would look for is under the Help Catalog and Trouble Shooting tab on Nolvus. Then go to crash logs tab then click on PDPerfPlugin Crash tab at the bottom of the list. Following these steps at least allows me to play the game. Hope this helps

For users with Windows version 24H2 and DLAA
Windows version 24H2 has made DLAA incompatible. Puredark the mod author is aware of the issue but not sure how to resolve it as this time. As such, the only resolution is to disable the DLAA upscaler mods and switch to TAA.
In Mod Organizer 2 (MO2) towards the top find section 1.1 SKSE PLUGINS.
Open the section, and towards the bottom find Upscaler Base Plugin and Skyrim Upscaler. Disable them both.

Then in the top navigation pane of MO2 click on the puzzle icon.
Select INI Editor.
Click on skyrimprefs.ini and click inside of the text box.
On your keyboard, press CTRL+F
Search for bUseTAA and change the value to match bUseTAA=1

Note: The paid upscalers Build 06 and 07 have been reported to function for some users
