Why is it necessary to enter an API KEY

Why is it necessary to enter APK KEY after upgrading to version 6.3.2? I remember that it can be used directly after installation without entering API KEY

@Q946 This is a real bug — the --free Zen models should work without an API key.

What's happening:

There are two separate "is the key available?" checks that got out of sync. isProviderAvailable() in provider-definitions.ts correctly handles the publicKeyFallback: "public" field (line 857), but the isApiKeyAvailable() function in provider-resolver.ts (line 154) doesn't know about publicKeyFallback at all. So the resolver sees OPENCODE_API_KEY is unset and rejects the model before the fallback ever kicks in.

Likely regressed in v6.2.0 when the provider availability interface was refactored.

Workaround until this is fixed:

export OPENCODE_API_KEY=public

That mimics exactly what the fallback was supposed to do automatically.
