TEdit: asked whether to convert a plain text file to a formatted file even after I've said yes

This happens in master and rmk88--Split-screen-updates-and-color.

Open a plain text file (name ends in '.tedit') in TEdit.
Select some text, apply bold or italic text looks to it.
Select "Put" to write the file.
TEdit asks whether to store the file as formatted or plain text. Answer "yes" to mean formatted.
Make additional changes.
Select "Put" again.
Again, TEdit asks whether to store the file as formatted or plain text.

The document contains formatted text and I've previously saved it as formatted text. Shouldn't TEdit take these two facts to mean that I do henceforth want to store the file as formatted text?

To duplicate this I opened TEdit and loaded the unformatted file ASCII.TEDIT with Get > Unformatted Get. TEdit opened the file both in its main window and in an additional window:

Other than that I could reproduce the issue from the main TEdit window. The additional window stayed as it was despite the text formatting changes.

I'm on Linux Mint 22.1 Cinnamon with both Medley and Maiko on master. I'm running VNC Medley.

If you are converting a file foo.txt from plaintext to formatted, should it offer the new filename with a formatting extension (foo.tedit) or still offer foo.txt ?

a .txt file that has tedit in it is mis-labeled. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robustness_principle applies. You should only offer .tedit for formatted files, but allow whatever the user wants to say
