Step 1: Clone Your Repository

If you haven't already, start by cloning your GitHub repository to your local machine. Replace yourusername with your GitHub username.

git clone https://github.com/yourusername/Automated-Reasoning-Seminars.git
cd Automated-Reasoning-Seminars

Step 2: Configure Git (If Not Already Configured)

Ensure your Git username and email are set up correctly.

git config --global user.name "Your Name"
git config --global user.email "[email protected]"

Step 3: Make Changes to Your Project

After cloning, you'll be on the main branch by default. You can start adding or editing your seminar materials directly in this branch.

For example, if you're adding new seminar topics, you would place those files into the appropriate directories according to the project structure you've set up.

Step 4: Stage and Commit Your Changes

Once you've made some changes, you need to stage these changes and commit them with a meaningful message.

git add .
git commit -m "Update seminar materials with new topics"

Step 5: Push Your Changes to GitHub

After committing your changes, push them to the main branch on GitHub.

git push origin main

Step 6: Keeping Your Local Repository Updated

If you are collaborating with others or making changes through the GitHub web interface, ensure your local repository is up-to-date with the GitHub repository:

git pull origin main

General Best Practices

Even if you're working directly on the main branch, here are some general best practices to consider:

  • Commit Often: Make small, incremental commits with clear, descriptive messages. This practice makes it easier to understand the history of changes and to pinpoint issues.
  • Backup Regularly: Regularly push your changes to GitHub to back them up and keep the remote repository up-to-date.
  • Review Changes Before Pushing: Use git status and git diff to review your changes before staging them. This helps avoid committing unintended changes.
