Implementation plan:

• Define and document a Semantic Versioning (SemVer) policy for the project

• Add automated changelog generation tooling (e.g., Conventional Commits + Release Please, Changesets, or semantic-release depending on the repository setup)

• Configure release workflows to generate consistent version tags and release notes

• Create or update a CHANGELOG.md workflow so user-facing changes are captured automatically

• Document the complete release process in CONTRIBUTING.md and/or README.md, including:

  • Version bump guidelines
  • Release preparation steps
  • Tag creation process
  • Changelog generation
  • Publishing and verification steps

• Verify that a new maintainer can perform a release using only the documented process

• Add examples of commit conventions if required by the chosen tooling

Acceptance criteria validation:

• Releases generate consistent version tags and release notes
• User-facing changes are automatically captured in the changelog
• The release process is fully documented and reproducible by any maintainer
