Subliminal is looking for maintainers!

Hi 👋

As proven by the long time I did not contribute to this project and although I with it was not the case, I don't have the time to maintain Subliminal anymore 😢

I'd be happy to add maintainers to this project or move it to an organization in GitHub so it can be given the care it deserves and continue helping everyone getting access to subtibles.

If you are interested, please answer in this issue! I'll provide access to the repo and releases workflows. There are many ways to contribute to this project:

• Merging pull requests
• Creating new releases
• Fixing bugs in the code
• Upgrading the test suite
• Full rewrite of the multi-threaded engine in asyncio for the braves

Writing Subliminal was a way for me to sharpen my skills and share it with the community, I'm glad it was helpful to others as well and helped automate such a boring task! 🫶 The fact that I now rarely consume media and/or don't need subtitles had me less interested in maintaining it.

In case I don't find any maintainers by 2024 July 1st, I'll be archiving this repository and put a non-maintained notice in the README.

While the odds of someone stepping up to the task are pretty slim, I appreciate you popping up again to address yours and the program current status quo, and not letting it rot without proper closure.

hi! as a frequent user of subliminal, while i definitely couldn't be the sole maintainer, i'd like to offer to help out a little with bringing the project up to date and review the merge requests whenever i have some free time :)

How do you plan to contribute @getzze? Through code changes and PRs? Or issues?

I can help improving the code, adding type annotation to start with and updating to modern build system, and reviewing PR. I would need to get used to the code again before being able to solve issues though. I contributed to the `refiners` module back in the day :)

@getzze do you have any contact info? IRC/Matrix/XMPP, or even Discord? i have some work started, but never got around to polishing it so i can publish it, and it would be useful to coordinate work :)

edit: i also looked at any existing chat places for subliminal, there was only a dead gitter channel

Hello,
I would also like to be added as maintainer.
I can review / test merge request, participate in bug fixes and help with the new release, and can also facilitate the creation of a discord room for developers.

I would also be able to maintain the docker variant (the current version doesn't work anymore due to the removal of unrar from alpine base image).

I use subliminal since long (thanks for the project!), mostly via the CLI in docker container.
