Pending Approval Implementation - Complete Status

IMPLEMENTATION COMPLETED 100%

Overview

Successfully implemented a comprehensive "Pending Approval" state for sensitive system actions requiring multi-admin consensus before execution.


📋 REQUIREMENTS FULFILLMENT

Technical Requirement 1: Modify SystemControlController to move "Halt" and "Upgrade" actions into PENDING_CONSENSUS table

FULLY IMPLEMENTED

  • SystemControlController created with complete halt/upgrade workflow
  • ✅ Actions moved to consensus-based approval system
  • ✅ Integration with PendingConsensus database table
  • ✅ Full API endpoints for initiating, approving, and executing actions

  • Minimum 2 distinct admin signatures requirement enforced

  • ✅ Configurable signature requirements based on action severity

  • Complete audit trail for all consensus events:
    • CONSENSUS_INITIATED - Who initiated the request
    • SIGNATURE_ADDED - Who provided approval
    • CONSENSUS_APPROVED - When consensus reached
    • ACTION_EXECUTED - When action was executed
    • SIGNATURE_INVALID - Failed signature attempts
  • Actor tracking: Public key, name, role, IP address, user agent
  • Event details: Previous state, new state, timestamps
  • Request context: Full HTTP request metadata

Audit Data Captured:

  • Initiator information (who, when, why)
  • All approvers (who, when, signature details)
  • Execution details (when, result, status changes)
  • Failed attempts (invalid signatures, expired requests)

🔐 SECURITY FEATURES

Cryptographic Security

  • Stellar Keypair Verification: Uses Stellar's cryptographic signature system
  • Deterministic Messages: Consistent signature format across all servers
  • Non-repudiation: Signatures cannot be denied or forged
  • Timestamp Protection: Messages include expiration timestamps

Access Control

  • Admin Role Validation: Only authorized admins can sign
  • Distinct Admin Requirement: Prevents single admin control
  • IP Address Tracking: Logs all signer IP addresses
  • User Agent Logging: Tracks client information

Consensus Rules

  • Minimum 2 Signatures: At least 2 distinct admins required
  • Configurable Thresholds: 2-5 signatures based on action severity
  • Expiration Protection: Requests expire (24-48 hours)
