\begin{abstract}
Germany introduced a national minimum wage of €8.50 in 2015. We compare firms in affected sectors to those in unaffected ones using proprietary firm level data. We match on past employment and forward looking creditratings and find only very small negative employment effects (0.014\% of overall employment, ~20 000 jobs lost) and positive effects on turnover in local service sectors. Given Germany's highly developed economy, we believe these results are of interest to the wider, US-centric, minimum wage debate.
