I would like to know if a hardware modification is necessary or is it enough to install this firmware if I want to use the tuner with an ICOM IC-705 radio? The maximum power of the IC-705 is 10W from an external power supply and 5W with an internal battery. The radio reduces the power to 2-3 watts during tuning if the SWR is too high. As a result, the ATU-100 EXT 100W is unable to tune the antenna in its factory state.

According to the workarounds found on the net, in the factory firmware, the minimum tuning power must be lowered, the maximum operating power most be lowered from 100W to 40W (this sw mod part) and the number of turns of the tandem match coils must be reduced from 10 to 5 (hw mod part).

Is this firmware sufficient on its own for tuning below 5W, or do I also need to change the number of turns of the tandem match here?

Hello,
I guess not, probably the tuning algorithm will fail when the IC 705 reduce its power during the tuning.
