This guide covers setup, local development, frontend assets, release builds, and common fixes.
Run all commands from the WeekBox project folder.
-
Install Node.js. npm is included.
-
Install the Neutralino CLI:
npm install -g @neutralinojs/neu
-
Install the project dependencies:
npm install
-
On Windows, install the pinned patched runtime:
npm run runtime:setup
WeekBox checks its hash before starting or building. Do not run
neu update, because it replaces the patched runtime. On macOS or Linux, install the platform runtime with the normal Neutralino CLI if needed. -
Start WeekBox:
npm run dev
npm install no longer updates Neutralino automatically. On Windows,
npm run dev and npm run build stop if the patched runtime is missing or has
been replaced. npm run neu -- update is also rejected. The pinned
6.10.11 runtime must be published in wb-nl-bin before runtime:setup can
download it.
| Command | Use it for |
|---|---|
npm run dev |
Start WeekBox and watch frontend asset changes. |
npm run assets |
Rebuild frontend assets after changes or updates. |
npm run runtime:setup |
Download the pinned patched Windows runtime. |
npm run build |
Build frontend assets and release executables. |
npm run package:macos |
Assemble the macOS .app bundle from the release build. |
npm run package:linux |
Assemble the Linux AppImage and .deb input folders. |
neu build |
Build executables directly after npm run assets. |
npm run dev and npm run build already run npm run assets. You only need to
run it separately when using another command or when you want to check the
frontend build first.
npm run devThis builds the frontend, watches asset changes, and starts Neutralino.
If you run Neutralino directly, build the frontend first. neu run does not
bundle the frontend by itself:
npm run assets
neu runIf neu is not available globally, use the project-local CLI:
npx @neutralinojs/neu runDo not use npx @neutralinojs/neu update in the WeekBox checkout. It can
replace the patched Windows runtime. Restore the runtime from wb-nl-bin if
the integrity check reports a hash mismatch.
Run this after changing frontend files or updating dependencies when
npm run dev is not already watching them:
npm run assetsFor a release build, use:
npm run buildThis runs npm run assets and then neu build. To run those steps separately:
npm run assets
neu buildNeutralino writes the generated executables to its dist directory.
The release workflow packages the existing binaries into a macOS .app, .dmg,
and .pkg, plus Linux AppImage and Debian packages. The macOS disk image and
Linux AppImage/deb conversion require their native CI runners.
Install Node.js from the official download page, then close and reopen your terminal. Check the installation with:
node --version
npm --versionInstall the CLI and reopen your terminal:
npm install -g @neutralinojs/neuThe project scripts use the locked CLI package through npx, so you do not
need a global install. Use npm run dev and npm run build so the runtime
integrity check is applied.
Build the frontend assets before starting Neutralino:
npm run assets
npm run devDo not use neu run by itself unless the current asset bundle is up to date.
Run the asset build separately so the first error is easier to identify:
npm run assets
npm run buildIf dependencies are incomplete, run npm install and retry. If the runtime
check fails on Windows, restore the patched binary from wb-nl-bin instead of
running neu update.
Include these details when reporting a reproducible problem:
- operating system;
node --versionoutput;npm --versionoutput;- the exact command that failed;
- the full error message; and
- whether
npm run assetssucceeds.
Use the bug report template to report it.
