The built in cards have the option for state color (as well as some pre-defined colors). For example, for tile cards: https://github.com/home-assistant/frontend/blob/3fd3c8003a0a1deb18d8959f94ca2dc7b1bfb63d/src/panels/lovelace/cards/hui-tile-card.ts#L247

My primary use case for this would be for batteries as described in #1037. Though I'd love to see the entire drop down copied as I also customize certain other elements like making the bluetooth icon --light-blue-color (so not state color but custom color from the dropdown). Both of which I was able to accomplish via the style functionality as described in #1037 (reply in thread) but seeing this become a feature of the card would be awesome!

+1, not sure why this is not as default. It's very tedious having to manually input css variables for each card.
