GA has app versions for web, iOS, and Android via Firebase. We need app store IDs for each and need to configure Firebase in the apps

I brought up a question in slack around whether we could try to use this as a chance to find a new analytics pattern for BIFFUD projects (I didn't put it in those terms, but that is the intent).

Short story: There is room for critique of Google, and a lot of what is wrong with the world stems from the fact that so many tool builders integrate Google's surveillance arm into the things they create. It would be really cool if we could find a way to break that pattern in what we do.

I asked on twitter if there are any good alternatives and some fun ideas came up:

  1. Geocities style counter using blockchain or twitter as the backend (lol)
  2. Matomo which looks great.

More will come up, and I'll do some digging!

Note: we can totally do GA for now (or even forever) and swap in something when we have the bandwidth. I just wanted to document some of this thinking here.
