Quick summary

The click area for the domain suggestion is too large. In the case of the first domain suggestion, the user could accidentally select it by clicking away from the input field. The clickable area is illustrated by the yellow background:

  1. Head to https://wordpress.com/domains/add/{SITE}
  2. Click on the area just below the input field

To stay on the screen.

What actually happened

Accidentally selecting the first suggested domain.

Created a fix here: #96013

One issue might be that it also changes the behavior on the domain only flow: http://calypso.localhost:3000/start/domain/domain-only. This flow allows selecting multiple domains, the selection of one domain there is a much smaller commitment UX wise and easily undoable.

I'm leaning towards keeping this as-is for that flow at least. Thoughts?
