Open Source for Humanity License (OSH License)

Version 1.1, 2024

Preamble

This Open Source for Humanity License ("OSH License") is designed to promote the use and development of software for open-source projects and initiatives that benefit humanity, while ensuring that derivative works remain open and accessible under the same terms.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Definitions

    • "Software" refers to the program, code, documentation, and any associated materials provided under this license.
    • "Benefit humanity" means to contribute positively to human welfare, knowledge, health, environment, or social progress.

  2. Grant of Rights You are granted the right to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and/or sell copies of the Software, provided that: a) The Software is used in open-source projects or projects that demonstrably benefit humanity. b) Any modifications or derivative works based on the Software are distributed under the terms of this OSH License.

  3. Conditions a) You must include a copy of this license and copyright notice with every copy of the Software or substantial portion of it. b) You must document and justify how your use of the Software benefits humanity or contributes to open-source if requested by the original author(s).

  4. Restrictions on Use a) The Software shall not be used for any illegal activities, including but not limited to spamming, harassment, or any actions that violate applicable laws and regulations. b) While the Software may be used to monitor public information on platforms like Reddit, it must not be used to create or propagate false, misleading, or deceptive information, including but not limited to fake reviews or testimonials. c) Users of the Software are required to engage in honest and transparent communication when interacting with communities or individuals identified through the use of this Software.

Intended Use The primary intent of this Software is to facilitate legitimate monitoring of public forums, such as Reddit, for the purpose of enabling creators or representatives of open-source products or humanitarian projects to participate in relevant discussions. Any use of the Software must align with this intent and adhere to the ethical standards of open and honest communication.
