Legal Info

Contributor License Agreement (CLA)

By contributing to this repository, you agree to our Contributor License Agreement (CLA).

Key points of the CLA:

  1. You retain copyright to your contributions
  2. Your contributions are licensed under EXDS-RL (EXDS-RESTRICTIVE.txt)
  3. You grant us relicensing rights - we may relicense your contributions for future versions
  4. The CLA may be updated - continued contributions constitute acceptance of updated terms

The full text of the CLA is available in CLA.txt. Please read it before contributing.

Important for current contributors: Due to inherited AGPLv3 code, the project as a whole is currently distributed under AGPLv3. However, new contributions are accepted under EXDS-RL and may be relicensed in future versions once AGPLv3 dependencies are removed.

Copyright

The Authors retain all copyright to their respective work here submitted.

Code License Timeline

Current Licensing

New Contributions (after January 12, 2026): Exodus Restrictive License (EXDS-RL). See EXDS-RESTRICTIVE.txt.

Note: Although new contributions are licensed under EXDS-RL, the project as a whole must currently be distributed under AGPLv3 due to inherited code. This will change in future versions.

Note: The project includes upstream code from the Monolith repository, which is licensed under MPL‑2.0. When incorporating changes from Monolith (especially those made after January 12, 2026), please obtain them directly from the original repository to ensure compliance with its license terms and to avoid confusion with the EXDS‑RL licensing of new contributions in this project.

Most assets are licensed under CC-BY-SA 3.0 unless stated otherwise. Assets have their license and the copyright in the metadata file. Example.

Note that some assets are licensed under the non-commercial CC-BY-NC-SA 3.0 or similar non-commercial licenses and will need to be removed if you wish to use this project commercially.

Historical Licensing

Monolith Era (September 2, 2025 - January 12, 2026): Content contributed between commit 04d8ce483f638320d1b85a7aaacdf01442757363 and fad16fd8f9c7123c312cb8a2f9ea808ad1007c5d is licensed under Mozilla Public License 2.0 (MPL-2.0) without Exhibit B, unless otherwise stated. See LICENSE-MPL.txt.

New Frontiers 14 Era (July 1, 2024 - September 2, 2025): Content contributed between commit 2fca06eaba205ae6fe3aceb8ae2a0594f0effee0 and 04d8ce483f638320d1b85a7aaacdf01442757363 is licensed under GNU Affero General Public License version 3.0, unless otherwise stated. See LICENSE-AGPLv3.txt.

Space Station 14 Era (before July 1, 2024): Content contributed before commit 2fca06eaba205ae6fe3aceb8ae2a0594f0effee0 is licensed under the MIT license, unless otherwise stated. See LICENSE-MIT.txt.

Distribution Requirements

Current Releases

All distributed versions must include:

  1. Full source code under AGPLv3
  2. Appropriate copyright notices for all components
  3. Notice that the project contains AGPLv3 code

Future Releases (after AGPLv3 removal)

Once all AGPL‑licensed code has been removed, future versions of the project may be distributed under multiple licensing schemes, including:

  1. MPL-2.0 (or another open source license)
  2. EXDS-RL (or other proprietary terms)
  3. Dual licensing models

The exact terms will be specified in each release.

  2. Future versions: License terms may differ - check each release
  3. Commercial use: Contact us for licensing options
